Beeswax candles from the Santa Fe Candle Company Beeswax has a long and rich history. It was treasured by ancient cultures such as the Egyptians and Romans. During the 13th century in Europe, beeswax candles became the choice of royalty and The Church, preferred for their bright light and honey-sweet aroma over candles of tallow (animal fat). And so it was, until the 19th century when paraffin and oil lamps were introduced, and the pure, clean light began to fade. Beeswax is totally different from other candles: it's all-natural, non-toxic, non-polluting, non-allergenic, and it smells delicious. A perfect, renewable resource, it’s made by the female worker bee for honeycomb, which safely contains their honey and the Queen’s baby bees. To produce one pound of wax, the workers eat about ten pounds of honey, fly 150,000 miles and visit 33 million flower blossoms! Beeswax is precious stuff.
